  • Austrian Independent Film and Video Database  
    A vast database of independent and avant-garde Austrian films. Search or browse by title or filmmaker. For each film there is a synopsis, cast and crew lists, a still image, and information on exhibition and distribution. Also includes detailed director biographies and filmographies.   • BECTU Oral History Project   Paid Subscription Required
    The Broadcasting Entertainment Cinematograph and Theatre Union (BECTU) represents personnel working within the British film industry and related fields. Since 1986, the BECTU History Project has compiled over 500 recorded interviews with veterans of the industry discussing their careers. Subjects range from well-known directors and producers to less famous crew and personnel.
  • BFI Features: Cinema Italia Gallery  
    A broad overview of Italian cinema from its inception to the present. Using short descriptions and still images from the British Film Institute's still collection, the site covers early Italian film, fascist propaganda and the "white telephone" pictures of the 1930s and 1940s, Neorealism, Spaghetti Westerns, the work of Fellini and Visconti, and contemporary filmmaking.

  • BFI Screenonline   Paid Subscription Required
    Screenonline, run by the British Film Institute, "is an online encyclopaedia of British film and television featuring hundreds of hours of film and television clips from the vast collections of the BFI National Archive, and several hours of recorded interviews with film and TV personalities". Although films may only be viewed by users at British universities, the rest of the website provides vast amounts of information pertaining to everything from comprehensive actors' filmographies to UK box-office statistics.
  • Bibliothèque du Film (BiFi)  
    Search the collection catalog for filmmakers and films. Many catalog entries feature individual synopses and bibliographies. Particularly useful to researchers who speak French.
  • Bill Douglas Center for the History of Cinema and Popular Culture: EVE (Everyone's Virtual Exhibit)  
    An interactive, digitized collection catalog that allows users to curate their own exhibits. The collection is one of England's largest, strong in the material culture (books, prints, artifacts) that surrounds motion picture history. Based at the University of Exeter, the center also contains a public museum.

    A huge database featuring synopses and images of early television shows. Members can get film clips upon request.

    Britfilms.com is the official page of the Film Department of the British Council, which aims to promote British films and filmmaking both at home and abroad. On this website, users can find information on England's national film output since 1998, general information on the British Council, and links to other British film organizations.
  • British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA)  
    BAFTA is the leading independent charity supporting, developing, and promoting the art forms of the moving image in the UK, from Film and Television to Video Games and Interactive Media. The website offers articles, photos, videos, podcasts, a guide to directing, a calendar of events, as well as a searchable database of BAFTA award winners.
  • British Artists' Moving Image Database  
    A research database on British artists' film and video, covering experimental and avant-garde film, video art, artists' television, gallery-based installations, and other works that use moving image and audiovisual multimedia technologies. The database provides information for several thousand works, including dates, formats, and some synopses. It also links to the holdings of public and academic collections, archives, distributors, and dealers, including information about locations and conditions of access.
  • British Film Resource  
    The British Film Resource is an excellent starting point for those interested in British film history. Comprising a series of short essays, each section introduces a different time period, genre, or performer of particular importance to British film history.
  • British Pathe Limited  
    British Pathe Limited makes available 75 years of English newsreel footage. Users can join the site at no cost and download the films for private usage. The database's search function allows user to search by keyword, title, or theme. Very highly recommended.
  • British Universities Newsreel Database  
    Get information about the history of moving image journalism in the UK. Search a database of stories and interviews with British news reporters, dating back to 1910.

    Watch newsreels from the collection. Clips can also be browsed by subject.
  • Bulgarian National Film Archive  
    The official site of the Bulgarian National Film Archive, which features information on the archive's collection and a vast gallery of stills from notable Bulgarian films. In English and Bulgarian.
  • Cahiers du Cinema  
    The main page of the website for the influential French film magazine cofounded by André Bazin is available in multiple languages. Back issues can be ordered and are indexed and searchable in the archive (only available in French) by issue number, date, title, author, interviewer, film, director, or production year.
