    Hosted by the New Museum, Rhizome is an online community devoted to digital media and Internet art, with a frequently updated blog, online discussion boards, and extensive archives and galleries. The ArtBase subsection is available to members through a $5/year subscription.
  • Screen Actors Guild   Paid Subscription Required
    Non-members can access current issues of the SAG publication Screen Actor Magazine. There is also an extensive SAG history section, which includes an interactive timeline and access to historical artifacts in the online museum.
  • Silent Film Bookshelf  
    Curated by David Piece, this site reprints original documents from the silent film era. Includes reprints of historical reviews and magazine articles about the industry, as well as information about musical accompaniment of silent films, articles on famous theaters (such as the Roxy Theater in New York), and much more. Active through 1999.
  • Silents Are Golden  
    This website contains a huge collection of vintage reviews of silent films. The site also includes photos of hundreds of silent-film actors, a calendar of theatrical and TV screenings of silent films, and an exhaustive list of available DVDs and videos. The articles and essays on the site are mostly written by fans.
  • Sloan Science and Film  
    The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Science and Film website hosted by the Museum of the Moving Image "supports the creation of realistic and entertaining stories about science and technology, many of which challenge existing stereotypes about scientists and engineers". The website features full-length digital films, dialogues between scholars and filmmakers, and a selection of articles written by film critics.

    SMPTE is a professional organization "founded in 1916 to advance theory and development in the motion imaging field." The website includes information on the history of SMPTE as well as current information about the society's ongoing projects.
  • Stories from Ontario's Movie Theatres  
    This online exhibit draws from the Archives of Ontario's theatre regulatory files to explore the history of film exhibition in Ontario.
  • Television History: The First 75 Years  
    This website provides a wealth of primary documentation on the history of television in the form of advertisements and newspaper clippings. Also features a photographic guide to television sets through the decades.
  • The Criterion Collection  
    Since 1984, the Criterion Collection has been dedicated to gathering important classic and contemporary films from around the world and publishing them in editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning, original supplements. The website offers an “online cinematheque” with the possibility to buy or watch films online, film essays, interviews, reviews, top-ten lists, and festivals online.

  • UCSD Chinese Cinema Web-based Learning Center   Peer Reviewed
    An introductory site on the history of Chinese cinema by scholar Yingjin Zhang. The site provides a wide variety of information concerning Chinese cinema, as well as statistics, capsule descriptions of important films, and short biographies of Chinese filmmakers.

    Box office statistics for every major release, industry news, and film and television reviews (both current and historical).
  • William K. Everson Collection at New York University  
    The William K. Everson collection features a growing number of downloadable film-related advertisements, including full reproductions of press kits. There is also a photo section, which contains portraits of film stars autographed to Everson.
  • Women Make Movies  
    Women Make Movies is a distributor of independent films made by and about women.
